finally brought low

For the LORD of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low… Isaiah 2:12

SInce indeed the Lord will bring low all that is proud and lofty, we should expect that on that day all human boasting will completely collapse into silence. Skyscraping towers will be reduced to dust and cinders. Human science will be unmasked as speculation and stumbling stupidity. Political systems of EVERY kind (left or right) will implode and nations will collapse in the ruins of the rubble of a war no human could even begin to resist. All celebrities will be uncovered as the ugly, begging fools that they are. Riches will be worthless and wealthy people exposed as weak and impoverished. Academic “genius” will show itself to be simpering idiocy. The strength, wisdom, holiness, and rule of God will destroy even man made religious institutions as powerless purveyors of evil. Christ will clearly rule over all. Everything that is proud and lofty WILL BE BROUGHT LOW.

There is a day that God will do this. I imagine all human activity will grind to a complete halt. No more working, no more fighting, not more speech-making, no more wealth disparity and greed, no more oppression and hate, no more grandiose railing against God about human progress and human rights — it is all flushed into the septic system of human pride, never to rise again!

The gospel points us to the rule of Jesus, the King of Kings, in a new creation. From this end of the world and the scouring of all creation comes the final remaking of everything good forever. All that is broken, sinful, and sad is undone. The lofty pride of man is obliterated so that the glorious worship of Christ our God rules the cosmos. Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!
