For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup
with foaming wine, well mixed,
and he pours out from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall drain it down to the dregs.
Psalm 75:8
In the hand of the LORD a cup is lifted high,
Foaming with justice, mingled and strong.
He tips its edge neath a darkened sky.
and righteousness pours out where wrong ruled too long.
The proud sinners recoil as bitter rains fall,
Their hidden sins drawn into God’s light;
Kings and beggars alike hear the same call,
each drop of judgment witnessing to the right.
Down to the dregs the wicked drink their due,
no lie survives, no refuge found;
The wine exposes every deed untrue
until the last drops splatter on the ground.
Yet on the cross the cup was lifted still.
As Jesus drank what wrath and justice decreed;
The grave lay silent, emptied by God’s will —
and a new cup celebrates how in mercy we’re freed!
